Tanaka’s Dottyback ( Lubbockichthys tanakai )
Philippines to Okinawa region; 6 cm; very rare
Described by Anthony C. Gill & Hiroshi Senou in 2002, based upon my specimen (as
paratype); secretive and lives under rocks or among crevices in drop-offs at the depth range
of 20-55 meters; yellowish white background with a broad black band on back; head
reddish; many undescribed species in the genus; Lubbockichthys was named in honor of the
late Mr. Roger Lubbock, an ichthyologists of Cambridge University of UK, who has traveled,
dived in far remote islands and discovered many new species; and also he was well-known
for dottyback-lover; how honorable and fortunate to me!
